PROCEDURE IN CASE OF ACCIDENTS
Emergency cards are completed on enrolment of each child. This enables the school to contact the parents or nominated person in case of sickness or
accident. Please notify the school of any changes in address, telephone number or emergency contact number.
School hours are from 8.55 am to 3.25 pm. Children are supervised from 8.55 am to 9.20 am, at recess and lunchtime in accordance with Department regulations. Children who travel to school by bus and arrive prior to 8.55 am are required to remain in the top quadrangle areas but are not under supervision.
By far the majority of pupils travel to and from school by bus. Department regulations are circulated periodically explaining bus travel rules. Misbehaviour can result in refusal to carry the pupil concerned or temporary cancellation of bus pass.
Pupils are supervised till boarding the buses each afternoon. Pupils assemble in bus lines each afternoon under the supervision of two teachers who remain on duty till the last bus departs. In wet weather all children are assembled undercover prior to boarding their buses.
ALL Infants children are entitled to a free bus pass irrespective of their distance from school. Pupils must travel a minimum of 6 weeks to warrant free passes.
It is essential that parents notify any changes of address as bus travel is funded only to the home address.
Pupils who live in isolated areas where parents must use their own vehicles to transport children to the nearest bus route are entitled to a Conveyance Subsidy where that distance is over one and a half kilometres from the bus route. (Applications through the school).
LOST PASSES: In the event of a bus pass being lost or destroyed it may be replaced by the bus proprietor at a cost, which will be advised by them.
CHANGE OF TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS: A permission note by parents is requested before pupils will be allowed to vary their bus travel or usual mode of going home. Word of mouth will not be accepted. Confusion can arise when the child is expected to relay a message from home. Without written permission the child will be placed on the bus.
Children are required by law to attend school regularly. If a child is absent a note explaining the reason for absence (illness, family commitments) should be given to the teacher on the child's return to school.
Sample Note
(Date)
Dear Teacher,
Johnny was absent on Tuesday (date), because he had a bad cold.
Signed: A Parent.
Departing Early: Children will require a note from the Parent or Guardian to the Principal to indicate any time the child is required to vary hours of attendance at School, e.g. dental, doctor's appointment. A note is required if you wish your child to leave the school at any time during school hours. We also request that parents sign the leave book at the office when they collect their children during school hours.
Arriving Late: Children arriving at school after 9.20am are required to report to the office and obtain a Late Pass stating the reason for being late.
Visitors Pass: Anyone visiting the school for collecting children from classrooms or as parent helpers, etc., are required to sign the Visitors book at the office and collect a Visitor or Classroom Helper badge.
The canteen is run by a Committee chaired by the Principal and operated by volunteer labour and a paid Canteen Co-ordinator to provide a service to the school.

Classes from Kindergarten to Year 6 have Library lessons as part of their English program.
The Library is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 9.20am and 1.10pm to 1.25pm.
Parents are asked to provide their children with a library bag to protect the borrowed books.
Excursions are actively promoted in the school providing they are an integral part of the class program. Excursions are utilised to expose children to a wide variety of cultural, social and physical experiences that are not available in the classroom context.
Permission notes that are sent out prior to each excursion must be signed and returned. Children will not be permitted to participate in an excursion without the written permission note.
Any family having difficulty meeting the cost of the excursion is asked to contact the school.
A Parent Newsletter is issued each Tuesday to the youngest child in each family, allowing parents to be informed of forthcoming school events. This Newsletter also incorporates a P & C Newsletter.
Parents are invited to participate in parent/teacher conferences regarding their child's progress towards the end of Terms 2 and 4. A written report outlining studentís achieved outcomes is also issued towards the end of Term 4.

A high standard of socially acceptable behaviour is expected from every child. children are also encouraged to practice self-discipline and to bear responsibility. Corporal punishment is not included in the school's Fair Discipline Code. A detention system is used for serious or repeated infringements of school rules. (See Schoolís Fair Discipline Policy booklet)

Milton Public School is also allocated a Support Teacher Learning Assistant whose role is to provide support programs in collaboration with the class teacher for children who are in need of extra assistance in literacy or numeracy.
A Release from Face-to-Face Teacher program is in operation which allows the release of teachers to share their expertise with colleagues and to carry out other duties, such as curriculum development, staff development and conducting interviews with parents.
Aspecialist Reading Recovery Teacher assists selected students in Year 1.
A School Counsellor is attached to the school and visits on a weekly basis. The duties include diagnostic testing of children, interviewing, counselling and conferencing with parents and staff. Counselling services are available to any parent. Appointments may be made by contacting the school.

Officers from the School Medical and Dental Services visit the school periodically.
School children to Year 6 have free Dental Service available from the Dental Clinic located in the Ulladulla High School grounds. Appointments to be made direct - phone 44551359.
The Kindergarten children are eligible to commence schooling at the beginning of the year as long as they turn 5 by 31st July in their year of enrolment in Kindergarten. Parental concerns regarding enrolment age can be discussed with the Principal or Assistant Principal - Infants.
Wherever possible, applications for enrolment in Kindergarten should be made in the latter half of the preceding year.
It cannot be stressed too highly, the importance of parents having their children immunised against infectious diseases including a Diphtheria-Tetanus booster and Polio Vaccination just before or after entry to school. Vaccination for Measles and Mumps should be taken before entry. The booster immunisations are highly desirable due to the closer contact children will have with others upon school enrolment.
An Immunisation Certificate is required for all children prior to starting Kindergarten. Please contact your Doctor, Health Centre or Council, who will issue this on completion of the booster immunisation.
These immunisations are free - available from Council or Health Centre.

Conjunctivitis - until discharge from eyes has ceased.
Head Lice - re-admit when treatment with anti-lice lotion or shampoo has been undertaken. Hair should be free from "nits". (However, if anti-lice treatment has been undertaken properly any remaining "nits" would be dead, as would any old "nits", i.e. those more than 2cm from the scalp.)
PARENTS AND CITIZENS ASSOCIATION
This meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00pm in the staffroom. All parents are welcome to attend.
Parents are asked to observe the "No Standing" signs at the front of the school when picking up or delivering children to school. These were erected in the interest of the safe passage of children across Thomas Street during the busy periods, before and after school.
All children being picked up by parents are requested to depart via Wason Street entrance, as the top entrance is reserved for bus departures.
To ensure student safety at the busiest times the carpark entrance gates will be closed between 9.00am and 9.45am and 3.00pm and 3.25pm.
N.B. The School car park, off Wason Street is for staff parking only and the only other vehicles permitted to enter and stand in it are those making deliveries to the canteen.
Carpe Diem - "Enjoy the Present Day", is the school motto incorporated in our badge and emblems. That is what we hope each child does at school. Enjoy Today!
A metal badge is available to wear with the school uniform. These are available from the school office.
House names remind us of the explorers Cook (green) , Bass (blue) , Flinders (yellow) and Tasman (red) . Appropriate colours are allotted to each house. House competition is operative in Years 3 to 6.
School Development Days are held on the first day of Terms 1, 2 and 3 for the purpose of developing or implementing programs for the betterment of the school. On these occasions we seek parent co-operation in keeping their children at home to allow all staff to take part in the day's planned activities. Parents, who are able to, are encouraged to participate in these days too.
